Improved carton packing for export of Phalaenopsis orchids

The export of Taiwan's Phalaenopsis orchids to North America and Europe takes about 25 days of maritime container transport. Improper packing in the shipment will lead to great loss. The prevailing cartons used for exporting Phalaenopsis orchids have vent opening arrangement on two vertical sides of the carton. This arrangement does not match up with the cooling air flow going upward from the bottom in the refrigerated container, and results in high rot loss of orchid seedlings. TARI's improved cartons set special vent openings at the bottom and top of cartons, allowing the cooling air to flow through inside the carton. This novel vent opening arrangement enhances air circulation and maintains optimal temperature and humidity conditions within the carton, thus greatly improves the orchid's vitality and resilience upon arriving at destination. This improvement is one of the attributes that help keep Taiwan's orchid industry ahead of the international competition.
