Wood blewit Tainnung No. 1 to add variety of mushrooms

Wood blewit (Clitocybe nuda), also known as blue stalk mushroom, is distinguished by the lilac tinge in its stem and cap. The firm flesh and strong fruity flavor make it an excellent edible mushroom comparable to truffle and matsutake. It is highly prized in French cuisine. Wood blewit was introduced to Taiwan under a Taiwan-France collaborative project. After a decade of selection and trials, a new variety of wood blewit named “Tainung No. 1” is released. Using fermented rice straw compost as a culture media, this variety can be grown year-round under air-conditioned mushroom hut. “Tainung No. 1” is plump in shape, thick in aroma, and delicious in taste with a delightful crisp-tender texture. It is storable for a month and transportable over significant distance, and adds to the diversity of consumer choice in mushrooms.
