Abstract:
The nesting whitefy (Paraleyrodes bondari Peracchi) was firstly recorded as a new insect pest of fruit tree in Taiwan in 1998. The host range of this pest was surveyed in southern Taiwan from 1998 to 2000, and 25 species of tree belonging to 17 families were recorded as its host plant. The infested leaves of wax apple ranged from 16.0 to 50.0 % with an average of 26.5 % in Kao-ping area. Though the distribution pattern of nesting whitefly on leaves of host plants was different, but It was observed mostly feeding on the abaxial leaf surface of middle-aged leaves. Adults were strongly attracted by the yellow and green colour sticky traps.
These colours were important factors for finding host plants. The chemicals such as 9.6 % Imidacloprid SP, 2.8 % Cyhalothrin EC, 20 % Mospilan SP and 2.8 % Deltamethrin EC showed effective in controlling this whitefly.
