Abstract:
In this study, three different herbicides were evaluated for its influence on VA mycorrhizal fungi in terms of colonization and spore production. Only one herbicide, isopropylamine salt of N-phosphonomethyl glycine proved significantly to depress the colonization of Ageratum houstonianum, a dominant weed species in the experiment field. At present study, an inhibition effect on the spore production was not significant statistically; however, the spore population in the treatment of isopropylamine salt of N-phosphonomethyl glycine was relatively less than control. Due to longer persistence of spores in soils, the decline of spore population was expected later in next experiment year. Overall, the herbicides tested in these experiments did not exert any impact yet on the composition of VA community.
