Abstract:
The objective of this study is to evaluate the heterosis and yield potential of F1 hybrids as for green corn among Tainan-white and exotic inbred lines in maize. Seven F1 hybrids and one open-pollinated Tainan-white (TNW) population (check) used as materials were evaluated in Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute at four crop seasons of 1995. The results showed that some F1 hybrids among TNW inbred line and exotic inbred lines (as CML98, CML93 and CML76) produced higher yield than that of the open-pollinated TNW population in ear fresh weight and grain dry weight. Heterosis existed among TNW inbred lines and CML76, CML93, CML98. However the eating quality for green corn needs to be further investigated.
