Abstract:

    Taiwan Rice Information System (TRIS), established by Taiwan Agricultural Research Institute, is able to meet the requirements of rice researchers, extensionists, and farmers.  TRIS consists of five subsystems including ‘Rice Breeding Management System’, ‘Released Rice Varieties Information System’, ’New Rice Varieties Demonstration Information System’, ‘High-quality Rice Varieties Information System’, and ‘Superior-quality Rice Production Web’.  It provides online information of variety, cultivation technology, diagnosis and control of rice diseases/insect pests, production and marketing through internet (http://tris.tari.gov.tw:8080/).  The developing process and long-term experiences in TRIS could be provided as a reference for the development of information systems in other crops.
