Breeding of Peach Cultivar ‘Tainung No.4 (Ruby)’

Abstract:
‘Tainung No.4 (Ruby)’ is a low-chill requiring peach [Prunus persica (L.) Batsch] released for mild winter region such as Taiwan lowland area. Trees of ‘Tainung No.4 (Ruby)’ are vigorous and widespread. Flowers are self-fertile and showy. Normal bloom dates are middle January in the lowland area of Central Taiwan. Fruits are round with average weight of 96 g, 95% external deep red color, and medium-large size for the late April to early May maturity season. Flesh is white, non-melting, sweet with subacid and clings to the pit.
