Abstract:

    Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) Tainung No. 7, originally numbered 90S-LA-09, was selected from the breeding lines of the cross combination 90S-LA, hybridized in the spring of 1990. After 13 years of the progeny evaluation, yield trial and regional yield trial. It went through and named Tainung No. 7. and commercial name Jentian on November 21, 2003, the meeting of the new crop cultivar Registration Committee convened by the Council of Agriculture, the Executive Yuan.

    It possesses a large-size pod and seed mass, high yield, sweeter fresh kernels, better eating taste and flavor. The new variety, Tainung No. 7 has an erect growth habit (Spanish type), primary branches number between four and six and secondary branches number between two to four, light green stems, obovate green leaves, orange-yellow flowers, slight pod constriction and reticulation, about 15 pods per plant, usually two-seed per pod, oblong seed shape, and light red seed coat. The seed of Tainung No. 7 is not dormant, so special care of irrigation and drainage management should be applied during the growth period and harvesting on time to prevent from undeground germination, in order to obtain high yield and better quality.
