Abstract:
To evaluate the tolerance of maize inbred and hybrid to ammonium-nitrogen (NH4+-N), seedlings were grown in sand culture and supplemented with 100 mM NH4+ at different stages. Seedlings were harvested at 14 days after application of ammonium-nitrogen (NH4+-N) to determine the gross differences in total dry mass. The results showed that significant difference in genotype and plant growth stage were observed in seedling total dry weight in 100 mM NH4+-Ntrentment The tolerance to ammonium was increased with plant growth stages. There was a linear correlation between total dry weight and plant growth stages of maize seedling. The key stage for determining the tolerance to ammonium in mnige the seedling at the was 2 leaf stage.
