Abstract:

Three hundred and sixteen rhizosphere soil samples mainly collected from fruit trees, vegetables, sorghum, wheat and ornamental trees in Kinmen were surveyed from September, 2001 through April, 2002. There are total of 10 genera of plant-parasitic nematodes were found from the 89 soil samples of 12 species of fruit trees, and the appearance frequency varied from high to low was Xiphinema, Rotylenchulus, Scutellonema, Helicotylenchus, Hemicriconemoides, Meloidogyne, Trichodorus, Tylenchulus, Criconemoides and Hoplolaimus. 46 soil samples from 18 species of vegetable fields were surveyed, Scutellonema spp. was the most important among 5 genera of nematodes including Scutellonema, Helicotylenchus, Pratylenchus, Trichodorus and Meloidogyne. The nematode fauna of 62 soil samples from sorghum fields comprised 10 genera of nematodes. Among them, Tylenchorhynchus, Criconemoides, Scutellonema and Xiphinema existed at each of the four localities surveyed, the other 6 genera of nematodes including Trichodorus, Pratylenchus, Hoplolaimus, Helicotylenchus, Hemicriconemoides and Meloidogyne were found occasionally and the densities of these nematodes were not high. The nematode fauna of 44 soil samples from wheat fields, mostly rotated with sorghum, included 7 genera of the nematodes of sorghum, but not Xiphinema, Hoplolaimus and Hemicriconemoides. The genera of nemaotodes isolated from 75 soil samples of 10 species of ornamental trees were Xiphinema, Helicotylenchus, Scutellonema, Rotylenchulus, Meloidogyne, Hemicriconemoides, Criconemoides, Longidorus, Trichodorus and Tylenchorhynchus. Among them, Xiphinema and Helicotylenchus were the most important. According to the above survey data, a total of 13 genera of plant-parasitic nematodes existed in this island, and the most important genera of nematodes were Xiphinema, Scutellonema and Helicotylenchus, with appearance frequency 26.3%, 25.6% and 20.9%, respectively.
