Variety Characteristics

    This variety contains a resistance gene found in Indian wild rice germplasm that can resistant to brown planthopper biotypes. The resistance gene was transferred into the aromatic rice variety Tainung No. 71 (Yihchuan aromatic rice) by hybridization and the application of molecular marker precision selection technology. The new variety, ‘Tainung No. 85’ can now resistant various biotypes of brown planthopper, with straight flag leaves, early maturity, good eating quality, and taro aroma traits.
